Technical information

VOLUME:

HRT holds is the first company in the holds business to introduce volume as a universal and ultimately precise way for comparison of the holds sizes.

The feature of a hold that is in fact used by a climber is the shape, and the only precise way to estimate the size of the shape- is the volume. Any other measurement like weight or length is not accurate, because the weight may vary within wide limits depending on the material density of the formula, and the length is always 2 dimensional and cannot describe and define the 3D nature of the climbing holds.

That is why we have decided from now on- as well as using the current non-precise, but popular ways for defining the sizes of the holds, to offer the information for the volume of each hold and set in cubic centimeters.

This will give our clients the possibility to calculate the real value of the holds they have received for their money. Hopefully other hold manufacturers will follow suit.

TIGHTENING TORQUE

The level of tightening torque is important for a few reasons:

  • the torque should be big enough in order for the climbing hold not to rotate around its bolt

  • the torque on the other hand should not be too big, because a hold can break in case of over- tightening and also damage the fixing points in the climbing structure

Depending on the size of the holds, we are recommending the following tightening torque for the bolt-on holds:

S – 25-30 Nm

M – 30 – 35 Nm

L – 30-40 Nm

XL – 40-50 Nm *

Mega – 50 Nm *

* In case a hold has a second hole- for adding a screw – the levels of tightening torque can be reduced with 5 Nm.

BOLTS

The bolts needed for every set are specified in a table in the info section.

The lengths apply for the cap-head bolts. In case countersunk bolts are to be used – the next available length of bolt should be applied.

COLOR NOTES:

UV stability: all colors tend to fade with time when exposed to direct sunlight. Because of the pigments' specifics - fluorescent colors ( incl. Violet ), are significantly more prone to fading and we strongly recommend holds colored with such pigments not to be used outdoors.

Materials: Polyurethane holds tend to change their color to more pastel and ivory/brown nuances when exposed to direct sunlight. This is valid for all colors, because it is an intrinsic characteristic of the material. In case color resistance is of great importance- we recommend the usage of HRT WHITE HOLDS - where the colors are defined by stickers which are UV-resistant and at the same time - easy and cheap to change.
